Is your mind running too fast? Feel like you are always thinking and can’t switch off? Mindfulness is a state of being rather than a state of doing. It can help to ‘bring you into the moment’ so that you are able to be more effective, clear and calm, even when the pressure is on.

Mindfulness takes practice and a bit of concentration but with a few simple techniques that you can practice anywhere, you too can experience the benefit of a calm focused mind.

There are two simple steps to complete.

  1. Notice what is happening around you (look, listen, touch, smell, taste)
  2. Pay attention to the physical sensations occurring inside your body. (heat/cold, tightness/looseness, comfort/discomfort etc)

Ideally you will use the external and internal awareness at the same time but you can also flip from one to the other. You can do this while you sit, stand or move around.

Try doing it for 30 seconds every 15 minutes, or sit somewhere nice and stay for a while.

The benefits will sometimes come quickly and at other times it will take longer.

Give it a try.
